Getting Ready For College? What Do You Need For Your Dorm?

Share post:

You are getting ready for college. In fact, the date when you must report is fast approaching. However, you still have not got everything that you need. Maybe you do not even know what you need for your college dorm.

Preparing for college is almost the same as preparing for a long trip to Africa, or some other exotic destination that you have always wished to visit. You must do it with meticulous care so that you do not leave vital things behind. Of course, just like our other plans, this is easier said than done.

You can always ask friends what you need for your dorm. However, in this short article, you will see everything that you need, and that should save you some time.

Bathroom essentials

Even without saying it, our bathroom essentials, you know things like flip flops and towels are the first to go into the bag. College bathrooms are communal and that means it can be hard to share some items. Thus, pack a good pair of flip flops, towels, bathrobe, shower tote bag and anything else that will not take too much space in your traveling bags. You do not have to take your toiletries with you since you can always buy them in the college town.

Bedroom accessories

You do not have to carry a bed to your college dorm. That will already be provided, but your comfort in bed depends on you entirely. One of the things that you need to bring with you is a pillow. When buying one, consider your sleeping habits carefully. If you are a side sleeper, look for a pillow that is specifically made for side sleepers.

You also need to bring a couple of bedsheets with you. The size will depend on the size of the dorm bed, something that you can always find out on the college website. You may even call ahead to find out. Bring other small items that you feel are too important to leave behind. However, consider the minimal space that you have to share with someone else. It is easy for a dorm room to look cluttered!

Kitchen items

Eating in university cafeterias is nice, but it is not an idea for every day. Many times, you will wish you could make your fried eggs just the way that your mamma used to make them for you. That is why you need to bring a few kitchen items with you. While you are at it, you may also want to find recipes for easy meals you can prepare fast.

Make sure you pack at least one anti-stick pan. It is very good for cooking eggs, vegetables, meats and other kinds of food. You can also use it for baking. At the same time, it is easy to clean it since grime does not stick. The kind of convenience that an anti-stick pan comes with is perfect for a college student.

Electronics

We all have different tastes in music and we always want to watch specific programs on TV. However, remember that you will be sharing the dorm with some else. What this means is that you cannot bring something that is too loud because it would disturb your dorm mate. In fact, it might even be a good idea for you to discuss with your roommate what electronics you can bring.

While still on electronics, carry your laptop with you. Although there is likely to be a computer lab in college, having your own laptop is more convenient for you, so that you can always have your notes on your person.

Other items to bring along

You will need a laundry basket to help keep the room clutter-free. You may also need to create a little haven in the dorm to remind you of home. Thus, bring some family photographs, mementos, favorite posters and other decorative items that you love seeing around you.

Find out whether you can bring a toaster or a microwave. If yes, be careful not to bring too many utensils to avoid flooding every available space. Only bring the most important items. If you take medication, bring them with you. Other things include books, camera, mobile phone, and clothing. About clothing, just a few pieces to get you to the next laundry session will do since dorm room closets are small.
