Five Ways To Become An IT Project Manager

Share post:

If you have worked in IT for a few years and are looking for a new challenge becoming a project manager may be the answer. Most project management jobs are taxing, but the rewards are good.

Better pay

IT project managers are amongst the highest paid people in the information technology industry. Pay rates vary depending on your level of experience and the size of the project you will be managing. However, you can expect to be paid at least £40,000 per annum and can quickly work your way up to earning a steady £80,000 per year. Top project managers can expect to earn up to £600 a day.

Strong Demand

Demand for the skills of good project managers is so high that you will rarely find yourself out of work. Job security is good for those with the right experience.

Job Satisfaction

Whilst being a project manager can be stressful, there is also a lot of job satisfaction. Being able to see a job through from beginning to end is far more interesting and satisfying than spending a couple of months writing code. As a project manager, you get to see the project in its entirety and see the actual result of all of your effort.

Learn Transferable Skills

Hired as a project manager, you will work closely with the people who are actually going to be using the new software, hardware or system you are developing. As a result, your understanding of the industry you are building the system for will be very good. Should you need to change careers in the future you can use what you have learnt about other industries as a foundation and as a way to get a job in that industry.

Being a project manager is a great career move, so why not start looking for this kind of work today.
